I bought several of these to store my nestabilities, and I love them! I can store so many sets of nestabilities in one case, and the magnetic hold is just great! They take up so little storage space. I recommend these to anyone looking for storage ideas for their spellbinders nestabilities.

      2. Chun says:

This is an excellent product for storing metallic dies (such as the Spellbinder ones)with many different sizes within each set. The magnetic pages keep the dies in place when open or closed and the whole storage book takes up very little room once it’s closed. I bought two books for my small set of scalloped and plain dies; they take up one and a half of the books and I still have room to add more in the 2nd book. I’ve been using them for two months and I’m very satisfied.

      3. Nopper says:

I Love the magnetic Storage Book for Nesties! You can get two different sets on each page, and you don’t have to worry about where they are or loosing any. I even took and cut out the instructions from the back of the Nestie’s folder and put it in there too, so this way I always know where it is when I get ready to use the Nesties in my CuttleBug.

      4. Vartanian says:

This cutter is extremely hard to use. It is has too many settings that you must wade through before you get to the cutting. If you just want to cut shapes, buy something self contained. If you want to creat a work of art to hang in an art gallery, go ahead and buy it. Just be prepared to spend hours trying to figure it out.
I consider myself fairly knowledgable when it comes to computers, and I was completely confused. I even work with a computer driven stencil machine at work.

      5. Tenney says:

Magic Gadget if you are addicted to card making or scrap booking. Easy to use with loads of free files on the internet, although necessary blades and cutting mats for it that will need replacing frequently are very hard to find.
If you live in the UK, buy it from the UK as I made the mistake of getting mine for USA. Waited for ages to arrive, the plug was the wrong sort and I had to pay £30 VAT

      6. Obazawa says:

After having used the Silhouette SD for a lot of cutting projects on vinyl, I’d say it’s not a bad machine. However, I think there’s an interface issue between the software and firmware of the cutter. If I use it to cut a few letters out on a 10″x6″ sheet of vinyl, there’s no problems. As soon as I try to do a bunch of letters, (the same word repeated), the cutter begins to miss parts of some of the letters. I tried the max of 8.5″x24″ and had 30 decals cut out. out of the 30, I was able to use 26. I then tried a larger size of the same word and font. In the 8.5″x24″ sheet, I was able to fit 18 decals, of which, only 15 were usable.

The software doesn’t take to importing images very well. After importing an image, I found myself having to use the Robocraft software to redraw the lines in the image because the software didn’t import the image as a solid image. Very time consuming if you have to sit and play connect the dots. There’s also a lot of prompts to cut your piece, which can become annoying as well. Another large gripe is that there’s no actual scale to the project you’re working on. They give you a grid, but no numbers on the grid to determine how large the piece will actually be. That makes the grid next to useless if you’re working on something that requires certain dimensions. Make sure to reboot your computer after installing the software. Even tho it doesn’t ask you to reboot, if you don’t, your custom TTF fonts will not work in the software.

The only reason I gave it a 3rd star is because it’s far less expensive than other plotter/cutters in the same category and works relatively well, despite it’s flaws. I purchased mine for $170 shipped.

      7. Hannah says:

A clear plastic “pen” with a flat edged tip on one end (for scraping?) and the other tip is filled with a putty material that you use for picking up small items. The putty end is covered with a plastic cover to keep it from drying out. A clever idea for picking up, but then you have to get it off the putty. Also, putty has a tendency in the one I bought to pour out when I don’t want it to.

      8. Thorin says:

I love the ingenuity of craters! What a great idea for working with small pieces! The QuickStick pen helps a lot in putting together many types of craft projects – I am sure others will find other uses too.

      9. Newlon says:

I cannot imagine scrapbooking without this item. If you do paper piecing or scrapbook titles with small pieces this pen is wonderful. I call it the quicker picker upper. This item is a must have for my scrapbooking friends and myself.

      10. Ossmen says:

I purchased this about 2 months ago and I love it. It is absolutely amazing what it can do. Since you can create your own designs it is highly versatile and can be used for so much more than just scrapbooking. The possibilities are endless. The only drawback is that I am having so much fun with it that it is hard to be motivated to clean my house! I signed up for a yahoo group (silhouetteusers) and it has been a great place to learn about all the ins and outs of the machine as there is a little bit of a learning curve.

      11. Hawkins says:

I own both a basic Cricut machine and a Silhouette. Each has pros and cons that I thought I would share here for anyone trying to make a decision about which one to purchase.

        Silhouette–
        Pros:
–You can cut ANY design in almost ANY size. You are only limited by your imagination and your computer skills. I have been having fun downloading clip art from the internet, and then using Photoshop Elements to break apart each piece that I want to do in a different paper color. You can save these pieces as .jpgs and import them into the Silhouette software. If you don’t know Photoshop, you can use the pre-made electronic clip art from Quickutz or from other designers who do Silhouette files.
–Blade seems to last longer than the Cricut version
–Mat seems to last longer than the Cricut version
–Since you can use any True Type font on your computer, your titles are virtually unlimited. When I’m scrapbooking, I like being able to cut my title out of the same font that I use for journaling since it has a nice clean look. The ability to do any font on your computer makes purchasing the Silhouette a great idea.

        Cons:
–I am a computer analyst and so the learning curve for me wasn’t too bad on the software. But for someone who doesn’t use any kind of computer, it will take a while to learn this. Typing words for titles, etc. is the easiest part.
–The machine is noisy. So much so that when I made my first cut I thought I was breaking it!
–They could improve the “depth gauges.” These little pieces of plastic haven’t broken yet, but they SEEM like they could break or easily get lost.

        Cricut
        Pros:
        –so, sooooo easy to use
        –a nice selection of cartridges
–blades and mats are cheaper to buy than Silhouette

        Cons:
–limited to the designs made by Cricut
–limited in size of dies if you own the basic model. The Expression addresses this issue because it has a larger format, but the Expression also costs twice as much as either of these products.

I’ve stopped buying Cricut font carts because my Silhouette can do so much in this arena. But Cricut shapes are still worth it because, again, they are so easy to use.

        Hope this helps!

      12. Jordan says:

I have had my silhouette for about a year now. WOW, I LOVE IT!!!

When I first received it I was a little apprehensive, as I had read a few reviews elsewhere with people saying it took them 5 hours to get the machine to cut anything, or their computer wasn’t seeing the machine. However, if you just follow the guide and do things in the order listed (i.e. install driver before plugging machine in, etc…), it is so simple. I was cutting in about 15 minutes. And I haven’t stopped since!

Now, granted I am a computer geek. I personally have no problem working in the software provided, but it certainly isn’t as easy as just ‘pushing a button’ on the Cricut. However, the fact that you don’t have to buy multiple cartridges at an obscene price, and can find many, many, many free or low cost files online (not to mention any true type font), would make it worth any learning curve to me even if I was not very computer literate. There are many good forums/groups to help you out if you do have problems or questions, just do a search in google!

Finally, yep, this sucker is LOUD. My hubby thought it was tearing itself apart the first time he heard it, and still wants to try and ‘modify’ it to make it quieter, but I won’t let him touch it!! I just crank the music up or leave the room and do some housework or something while it’s cutting, and then it’s no bother at all.

Bottom line: I think this is by far the best cutter for the $$ as you are basically only limited by your imagination.

      13. Jarvis says:

The Silhouette is complete in one box. There is nothing else to buy, except replacement blades and cutting mats down the line, but the ones you get are going to last a long time. There is no software or cartridges to buy, and you are able to use any of the thousands of TrueType font or dingbat you can find online. The software is extremely easy to use, and the first day I owned it I was downloading shapes from antique image archives and resizing and cutting them with ease. There is an online training tutorial which explains everything in the clearest possible terms. If you wish, you can purchase very inexpensive .gsd files from the Quickutz site, or download any of the hundreds of free or purchasable .gsd files from independent designers online. There are several online discussion groups which deal with these cutters and others. Note that your Silhouette is the same machine as the CraftRobo used by artists and designers worldwide. This is not just for scrapbookers by any means, though they will love it. I use it for cutting layered paper shapes for collage. Quickutz is well-known for the excellent customer support. Why lock yourself into the expensive and cutesy cartridges or after-market software for the Cricut when for this price, you can use your own originality and imagination, let alone all the design resources of the entire internet?

One more note — my laptop is the 64-bit Dell Studio, and Quickutz offers a 64-bit driver for this machine. It works perfectly with Vista as well as XP, and I have run it off both kinds of machines with no problems whatsoever. I recommend this product 100% and wish I had bought it years ago.

      14. Cortez says:

I love my Quickutz Silhouette-1. It has been great for cutting out my daughter’s T-shirt patterns. I use if for crafts. You will need to be patient with it at first and make sure you read the instructions.

The only thing I wish Quickutz would improve is the downloading process for your own designs. You also need to remember that it is a cutter and not a printer so you if you want to cut out your own patterns you have to make an outline before the machine will cut your pattern, but once you do the outline, you can save the pattern so you do not have to download and outline it again.

Purchasing objects for your library is easy as well, once you buy stuff, it goes directly to your library.

The Quickutz is a great machine for the price. Once you try it, you will love it. I use it every day!
